Testimonials

I’ve had some amazing experiences since finishing my training at AWA and going to work in Africa. Coming across herds of elephants while flying at (very) low level and getting road-blocked by a family of Giraffes just to name a couple, but the other day was certainly a highlight. I flew at low level up the Great Rift Valley, over the vast crater of the extinct Longanot Volcano, west of Nairobi, Kenya, and around Mt Elgon, which is 14000 feet high, much higher than I can fly without oxygen. We cut the corner from Kenya over Uganda and then straight in to Juba, South Sudan. It was such and amazing flight. I cruised at only about five hundred feet above the ground, but never below 10,500 feet above sea-level. As I cruised over Nakuru I passed over a large crowd of school kids playing soccer on a bare, dry field. They all waved and jumped up and down excitedly as I passed by! I flew over green, neatly cut coffee plantations and farms, the kind of country Karen Blixen wrote about so longingly in Out of Africa. Little patches of agriculture carved from the dry, undulating landscape.  I was level with, or below, the mountains on either side most of the time. Buffeted by strong winds and barely climbing over saddles between peaks. It was amazing.
There is something timeless about the Kenyan countryside, like it’s still the wild frontier that has not quite been tamed. It certainly is captivating. After being here for some time I truly believe that you can never really own a piece of Africa for long, but if you ever live here Africa will always own a piece of you. I would probably not be working here today, enjoying these amazing experiences, if it weren’t for the great staff at AWA (especially Gannon, Tom and Jason)  and the opportunity to do my instrument rating under VET-Fee help. I am eternally grateful for the opportunities I have had a result.

The syllabus at AWA is forward-thinking and relevant to contemporary aviation. I found the instructors to have exceptional knowledge, commitment and a genuine passion to teach their students. Even though I have been offered an incredible opportunity I don’t want to leave, thanks so much for the experience!

I am in the Army and looking forward to a career where every day will be different, I will also have the opportunity to fly some of the best aircraft in Australia. The instructors at AWA were always helpful and easy to approach which made it very easy to ask questions and learn as much as possible.

As an international student myself, language is definately an issue but since the day I joined AWA not one day have I gone home without new knowledge in aviation. AWA never stops trying to improve the communication between international students and instructors. In fact, the school has devoted so much to make us comfortable and feel like home durng the course. They completely understand our situation of learning both aviation and english at the same time and have provided efficient programs to overcome the issues to accelerate the course. In the meantime, with the BBQ parties and other interesting events that have been held by the school, we can still have fun and enjoy our present stay in Australia, overall – AWA ROCKS!

I was extremely apprehensive and scared when I got to Australia but right from the pick up at the airport, I have had the good fortune of being with people who are extremely understanding and friendly, this has helped me a great deal in adjusting to life here and helped me call this place also home. The standards that AWA insist you have as a pilot makes you one of the best there are in the industry and gives you the confidence you need to believe enough in yourself to go out there and get that dream job. The instructors and the rest of the staff go out of their way to make sure they teach you the best as your friend and as your instructor. You are always made to be the best you can, at the end of the day you graduate from one of the best flying schools in Australia.

My favourite quote of all times by British Airways Concorde Training Capt. John Cook, perfectly reflects my feelings towards flying. He said, “I learned the Discipline of Flying In Order To Have The Freedom Of Flight”. During my stay with AWA, they not only provided me with great quality and well maintained aircrafts to fly, high discipline training was also part of my education. I am now confident and competent flying everywhere in the world, all thanks to AWA. Julio is now a First Officer with Eva Air.

I really enjoy training at AWA, it was recommended by a friend who is already in the aviation industry and I have not been disappointed. The experience and knowledge of aviation gained at AWA will prepare me to face realities of the aviation industry. Also the Gold Coast is an ideal area to appreciate different kinds of weather and terrain, giving you the necessary confidence. I would recommend AWA to any aspiring pilot because of its instructors dedication to the highest safety standards.

I completed my Commercial Licence in 11 months. The instructors were all fantastic, always offering a helping hand and going out of their way to see you improve. The facilities are outstanding, everything is just right here. The friendships built through the classroom ensure you will have contacts in the industry, no matter what you are doing. I wish everyone all the best in their flying training.

I have only been studying at AWA a few months now but the friendly instructors and students have made me feel so welcome. I came to AWA with no aviation knowledge or experience but the amazing support and encouragement has allowed me to go home everyday knowing I have learnt something new. With such a high standard of training I do not doubt that I will reach my goal of one day becoming an airline pilot. I am looking forward to continuing my studies here and would highly recommend it to anyone.
